Secondary School Options

At the start of Y6 all parents get a secondary school preference form. You are asked to put down your first three secondary school preferences. There are a number of different types of secondary schools in the Sleaford area, and they all admit children in a slightly different way.

Comprehensive-Academies, like St George's and William Robertson, have different admissions systems. The best thing to do is look at the school's admission policy, which should be on their website, for guidance.

Grammar Schools, like Carre's (boys) and Kesteven and Sleaford High School (girls), require children to pass the 11+ test, as well as list the school as their first choice/preference. There are two tests, which cover verbal and non-verbal skills. These tests take place at the grammar schools themselves, often on a Saturday morning in September. These tests are sat by Y6 children.

Parents are told how their child did in the 11+ test before they have to complete a preference form. As a general rule, the children need to score 80% to achieve the pass mark.

'Letts', ‘Bond’ and 'GL Assessment' produce commercially printed practice papers, available from WHSmiths and on-line.

Please note Mrs Browning runs an 11+ club for those children interested in taking the test.

Private Schools, like Lincoln Minister and St Hugh’s in Woodhall Spa. Parents must pay for their children to go to these types of school. Parents need to apply direct to these schools rather than complete the local authority preference form.

Special Schools, like Ambergate, cater for children with significant special and/or behavioural needs.  Please speak with our school SENDCOs if this is an option you would like to pursue.
